CENS Monthly Round Up June 2023
Phew! Things are heating up at the homeless shelter as the warm weather continues. This month we’ve had a focus on connection and activities to prevent loneliness, and to help stay cool!
Keeping Connection
The lovely Emer from Essex Therapy Dogs popped in for a visit with Samson. Residents really enjoy their time with Samson. For some it brings back memories of the animals they used to have, for others Sampson is a calming and therapeutic presence.
We had a donation of some BBQ fuel which was the best excuse to do a BBQ evening! Residents enjoyed some connection time together, and we had some fantastic food, a mixture of donations from our fab partners at Fareshare, and some meat prepped by our lovely Kitchen Co-ordinator Emma. Residents also helped to cook. Our volunteer Lesley also donated some more garden chairs to replace our cracked plastic ones (why do they always crack??) so now the patio is even more welcoming for residents to sit out together.
One of our residents came up with another great idea – Movie Nights. Residents nominate a movie and they are picked out of a hat. The guys have been doing this weekly and it’s a great way to encourage them to spend time together, have fun and enjoy connection.
Cakes Galore
New kitchen co-ordinator Emma is a superstar baker, and the residents have been really treated to some yummy cakes and deserts. Here’s just a selection!
Open Day at CENS
And speaking of cakes – if you would like to connect with us, join us for a coffee and catchup, and sample some CENS cakes for yourself, you can join us for our Open Day on 7th July.
Continuing Success
We love shouting about our stats! And that’s not just to show off, our stats represents real people, lives changed, cycles broken. And that’s worth shouting about. Find out more about how you can help us here.
See you next time!
