After the success of last year’s delicious Christmas Dinner by the Fat Cat Pub, we’re really grateful that the family run pub have decided to do it again. Here, we chat with Alexis…
“After a few horrible years with covid and the lockdowns, we’re now back on our feet, so it feels like a privilege to be able to provide Christmas dinner for your residents again this year.”
A worthy cause
“We see your guests outside every day waiting to come in at 5pm. There’s never any trouble and they’re always friendly but it is sad for me to see. I can’t imagine the trauma of being homeless.”
“Bringing my son up as a single parent and having to move a lot when he was younger, I understand the stress of losing a home. I was fortunate enough to have a network around me that pulled me through each time and kept me moving forward. I always had a job in the family business.”
Christmas cheer
“CENS is providing that network I was lucky enough to have for people who aren’t as fortunate as me. The mental and physical strain that comes with such a stressful situation as being homeless is supported by you guys at CENS. I’ve been shown around the facilities, and I could feel that it’s a loving, secure environment which is what everybody deserves to have. My brother and I both feel that if we can help for one day, it is so worthwhile.”
“Christmas is a funny time for a lot of people, and it was very difficult for me when my son was young. But now he’s flying the nest and doing well, I am able to dedicate this time to do something that is meaningful, which really is a pleasure. I don’t often get to give back but CENS is a worthy cause.”
All go!
“Last year I was on the bar while James and his friend were having a blast cooking in our kitchen upstairs, they got a lot of satisfaction being able to help. This year, all of us are helping out – my son will be cleaning the pub ready for us to open up at 12pm. They’ll be serving drinks for a few hours, while I’ll be cooking for CENS in our kitchen. It’ll be a hectic few hours but my mum is going to cook us a family dinner so I’ll be able to relax afterwards. We’ve got a crown of turkey and a roast ham with all the trimmings. We really hope the residents will enjoy it and have a good time!”
