How to make summer FUNdraising fun

Summer is hopefully on its way, although with all this rain you wouldn’t know it. If you’ve been thinking about setting up a summer fundraiser for CENS but aren’t sure where to start or what to do, we have 7 ideas which will put the fun into FUNdraising.

1. Fire up the BBQ and sizzle a sausage

We are sure to get some sunshine soon, so why not invite your neighbours, friends and family over for a feast in the garden. You can charge an entry fee, or accept donations per burger.

2. Have a bake-off

Cakes aren’t just for winter. Think summer berries, home-made ice cream and lemon curd. Get baking and set up a stall. Involve your friends and make it a competition to see who can raise the most money.

3. Get your green fingers ready

If you’ve got a garden or allotment, or even a windowsill, try selling some home-grown plants, vegetables or flowers. If you’re really green-fingered, why not offer to help out your neighbours. Ask for a donation and offer to cut the lawn or prune a few hedges.

4. If you go into the woods today…

If you want to get the children involved in a spot of fundraising, set up a teddy bear picnic in your local woods or park. You can ask for donations to attend and could set up a sandwich and lemonade stand. You could even charge for entry to the best teddy competition. Categories like, oldest, shabbiest, hairiest, biggest could all work.

5. Spring clean your Summer

You’ve all heard of a spring clean, but what’s wrong with a summer clean? There’s no better feeling than having a good old declutter. Sift through your cupboards, drawers and wardrobes and pull out all those unwanted items you never use. You can then host a summer sale in your front garden or hold a pop-up event inviting your friends to do the same.

6. Throw yourself into fitness

There is no better time to get fit and grab some fresh air than the summer months. Whatever your passion – swimming, walking, running, cycling or even trampolining, set yourself a target and get sponsored. Involve friends and make it a competition. You’ll feel the benefit too.

7. Shhhhhhh

Don’t say a word. Take a vow of silence for the day. Or challenge that chatty friend or your children. Get sponsored for every hour you remain silent. You never know, you may find your inner peace.

What’s stopping you?

We hope that has helped inspire you to set up a fundraiser. You may have your own ideas and if you need any help or guidance, you can check out our Fundraising Guide here. Don’t forget to tell us all about it so we can help you publicise your event and give you a shout-out.
